Soil Foodweb Oregon

Soil Foodweb Oregon was the first Soil Foodweb Lab to be established, in 1996. Located in Corvallis Oregon, it is the resident lab of founding scientist, Elaine Ingham and is the origin of the testing practices that have made our worldwide lab network so successful.  Our years of experience have accumulated an ever growing body of data that continues to evolve our understanding of how to meet the unique needs of individual growing systems. We advise growers of every kind: from large-scale, industrial agriculturists to organic homesteaders, turf managers to vintners and orchardists, erosion control engineers, and toxicologists looking to use bioremediation to clean up polluted sites.  Although we receive and process samples from every continent, we dedicate our optimum service to local growers in the Willamette Valley, where we can travel for onsite soil and compost consultations. These services can be offered nationally and internationally when appropriate.

We specialize in offering solutions to soil ailments that are not addressed by conventional agricultural practices. Our research shows that more often than not, conventional treatment of soil problems create greater damage in the long run. Our approach offers sustainable solutions that build soil health into the future rather than getting rid of problems quickly, only to have them reappear in following seasons.

The Soil Foodweb approach is based on hard scientific research. Plants grow best when there is a healthy balance of diverse organisms in the soil. It is our duty to bring this knowledge into practical application. We help people understand the processes that are naturally occurring in their soil so that managers can work with the conditions in their soil instead of against them.
